The Real Reason You Feel Overwhelmed (And What to Do About It)
Are you feeling overwhelmed, overextended, and constantly running out of time?
Is your home cluttered, schedules packed and your mind never stops?
Are you exhausted?
We’re called human beings, but most of us have become human doings—always busy, always rushing, always trying to keep up. And somehow, even though we’re connected 24/7, we feel more disconnected than ever.
Here’s what I’ve learned: it’s not just about being busy.
It’s about what you’re holding on to.
We hold on to everything—things, people, old dreams, old stories, old drama, even versions of ourselves that no longer fit. But holding on doesn’t move you forward.
It keeps you stuck.
Some of what we have is necessary, of course. But a lot of it isn’t. Sometimes we shop to fill a void, to cope, or just to feel something different for a moment. That “quick fix” ( I call it “the thrill at the till”) ends up adding more clutter—physically and mentally. And it adds up.
Most people lose up to 90 minutes a day just looking for things. That’s time you don’t get back. It can create stress, frustration, and tension at home.
I call it TMSS—Too Much Stuff Syndrome.
But here’s the good news: you can change it.
Simplicity isn’t about getting rid of everything. It’s about making room for what actually matters.
Try these Getting It Together Tips and let me know how you do.
- Let go of one thing a day. Have a “To Go” box that you can keep adding to.
- Say no to one thing you don’t really want to do
- Give everything you use a proper home
- Pause before you buy—ask yourself why
- Take 15 minutes a day to reset your space. I call this my 15 minutes to freedom.
Your brain can only focus on one thing at a time. When your space is clear, your mind follows. When you’re more present, you gain time—sometimes as much as an extra hour and a half a day.
Do you want a simpler life?
It starts with letting go.
